Before we begin, I want you to know that like you, I’m a classic car and truck fanatic. I’ve also been a seller on eBayer since 1998 and take pride in only receiving positive feedback over the last 21+ years. I’ve owned dozens of cars over the years and have made many sight unseen deals (many here on eBay) to buy or sell cars across the country.
In addition, I strongly believe in the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words.” The Internet has allowed us in our hobby to search for cars nationwide and it’s my hope to make you as comfortable as possible with this purchase. Sit back and take a peek through the photos and videos of this untouched original, survivor pickup. If you have any questions, though, please don’t hesitate to call me. My name is Jeff and I can be reached at 414-940-8848 before 9:00 p.m. central time.
How Does a 24 Year Old Truck Only have 38,500 Miles?
Elmer Horn was 67 years old when he traded his 1993 F150 for this stunning Light Opal Gray Metallic, 1995 F150 XLT 4×4 pickup. I can picture Elmer driving into Nelson Ford in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and setting the record straight to the sales staff about how his new truck had to be ordered. Elmer was definitely particular about this new truck…it had to be special. And special it is. He wanted a regular cab, 8′ box, and the truck had to be a lever controlled 4 wheel drive; no buttons.
Elmer was old school and knew the reputation of Ford’s legendary 300 cubic inch straight six engine, especially with a manual transmission. Elmer backed his new truck with a 5 speed manual transmission and 3.55:1 gears, knowing the insane pulling torque of the straight six would really shine through with that combination. With this setup, Elmer also knew his gas mileage would be decent…I recently got 19.2 mpg on a 135 mile drive.
Outside, Elmer really wanted his truck to stand out from the other F150’s, so he opted for the very rare Light Opal Gray Metallic paint. Only used for a couple years, the unique color of this pickup gets compliments everywhere. With the chrome and brightwork of the XLT package, this pickup truck glows…it honestly glows.
Inside his new truck, Elmer wanted comfort, so he opted for the XLT package that offers all the amenities. The blue bench seat rides like a sofa and looks new. The truck has all the power options and even has cruise control. The truck has full gauges, including a tach. Ice cold Air Conditioning is a part of the XLT package on this beauty, too. Everything works…the power windows, locks, mirrors, gauges, cruise, and factory Ford radio. The truck has NEVER been smoked in. No excuses with this one.
After making his purchase, Elmer added his last unique feature to his pickup: a plaque with his name affixed to the dash, which remains intact today. Like most buyers, Elmer intended to USE his new truck and over the first couple years, the truck saw about 20,000 miles and even some use in the winter months. As the years went on, though, the truck saw fewer and fewer miles and soon saw action only on sunny days. Today, mileage stands at approximately 38,500.
In 2016, at 88 years young, Elmer Horn passed away. His pickup was cared for by a family friend until my purchase. This truck belongs in a collection, or maybe with someone who plans to keep it for another 20+ years like Elmer Horn.
Condition and Can I Drive It?
I’m going to try to let the hundreds of photos and multiple videos tell the story, as they tell so much more than my words can. But this is what I’ll say: This truck is a true, survivor. 4×4 pickups get used, but somehow, this one slipped through the cracks. I’ve included close up photos of each body panel, showing some of the light marks, nicks, and other minor flaws that are inevitable with any 24 year old vehicle, regardless of miles. The trim and chrome are ridiculously bright and the 99% original paint GLOWS in the sun. Are there a couple dings and marks? Yes. Do they detract from the absolutely stunning condition of this truck? No way.
Friends have asked how untouched the paint is. I believe two spots have been blended over the years. The driver’s side cab corner had some work done at some point, as a 1″ by 1″ area appears to have non-factory paint. The previous caretaker pointed out a section of the box that saw some blending after a crease was put in the area by a piece of equipment. Photos of these two areas are in the ad, but honestly, most people would never know had I not mentioned it.
The interior is near new. I don’t know what else to say. It smells new.
The paint on the inside of the box has a few scratches from hauling items, but the bedliner protected the box from getting banged up since new. The undercarriage of the truck is Wisconsin clean. This is a term used in our area to let people know the undercarriage doesn’t look like an Arizona truck, but it’s obvious the truck wasn’t driven every winter, too. I’ve included photos and video of the underside, so the next buyer can rest easy making a purchase sight unseen if needed.
Since it’s been out of storage about a month ago, this truck has been driven several hundred miles. It starts, idles, runs, shifts, and drives like new. It cruises 75 on the highway with one finger on the wheel. No excuses, no BS with this truck. It is what it is and all you have to prepare for are the compliments you’ll receive while driving it, like I have.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions. ~Jeff
