4×4 5 speed prices keep going up it. Harder to come by. Simple and reliable truck. Plan is to drive it until the truck dies or I die. No need for fancy electronics. Reviews for newer generation Tacomas show fancier things break more often. Meets my needs 99% of the time.
If I need more power, towing or payload, I’ll borrow a bigger truck. If my taco dies before me, I’ll probably get a Tundra. Newer Tundras appear to be more reliable than newer Tacomas.
Amazing truck, still going strong almost 20 years later.
The only major maintenance items needed in most cases are:
Timing Belt / Water Pump every 100k miles or so
Rear Axle Seals after 150k miles or so
Valve Cover Gaskets after 150k miles or so
As a precaution I did:
New Radiator after 140k miles
Added bypass Transmission cooler after 140k miles
That’s about it!
This is the greatest truck ever made, as soon as you get a chance, buy one and keep it for the rest of your life. These trucks are impossible to kill.
