2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Review and Price

2001 Chevy Silverado 8.1 with Allison Transmission. Regular cab and 8′ bed 4×4. I’ve had 87 Jeep Comanche 4×4 with inline 6 was a great truck but too small. Went to 96 Ford F150 with Inline 6 with 2 wheel drive was a GREAT truck and the inline is a great motor but again was not heavy duty enough. Finally got my dream 2001 Chevrolet Silverado2500 HD LS 4×4 with 8′ Bed – regular cab. Has 8.1 496 cubic inch motor and the Allison “Diesel” Tranny – biggest badest gasoline truck out there (before going into Diesel class) I had a 2004 Toyota Tundra with Quad Cab and 6′ bed before this. The Toyota had 225K miles and I drove it cross country with a loaded 6 x 12 enclosed cargo trailer the truck was amazing but with the 4.7 V8 was underpowered for the size/weight of the truck. Excellent quality but knew that after towing 2,400 miles my next truck would be a 2500 series and I was able to get one rust free from New Mexico – I love my Silverado – never thought I would go Chevy but I did and no looking back to Ford.
Its a Tank of a truck really minimal maintenance, runs super smooth and has the getup to get out of her way(and out of the way of her sport car cousins). Ive had to replace the sides of the radiator but I live where the summers will reach 120 on average so it was kind of expected with the big block. With 200+K on her she still purrs, she could probably take a grenade and still purr. she will handle a pallet of anything in the bed. It may look scary as F—- when she squats low, but she handles it like a champ and I dont even feel the road. Heres the best part about her, for all those DIY people she has ample room to work in and out of the engine, super easy to just pull one part out and not a ton of other things.
Awesome truck, you can’t beat the duramax alison combo. Great MPG and a comfortable ride. Add a superchips tuner and it is amazing the power increase and towing power. Handles heavy loads as a heavy duty truck should while being as comfortable to drive as a car. The Allison transmission really is worth it all.
