Our Pick of the Day for Bring a Trailer Auction: 1994 Mazda RX-7

Car and Driver features a stunning 1994 Mazda RX-7 Touring finished in Montego Blue paint. Despite the passenger door having a dent and the paint being less than perfect, the car has only clocked in 34,000 miles so far in its lifetime. Interested buyers can bid on the vehicle at Bring a Trailer until April 30.

The Mazda RX-7 boasts a 1.3-liter Wankel rotary engine which is nearly three decades old. The engine has been kept stock and is capable of producing a maximum of 255 horsepower which is sent to the rear wheels by a five-speed manual transmission. Despite this, a previous owner has modified the car with several aftermarket parts, including a Borla cat-back exhaust, a Pettit Racing intercooler, and an aftermarket air intake and exhaust downpipe, bringing in a few additional ponies and amplifying the car’s sound.

The RX-7 also features a set of 17-inch Enkei RS-Evolution multi-piece wheels, mounted with Falken FK452 tires measuring 235/40 up front and 265/40 in the rear. The car has mainly been kept in warm climates, but the current owner has relocated it to Pennsylvania since 2009. The car’s tan leather seats and RX-7-branded floor mats successfully complement its blue exterior appearance, and both seem to be in great shape.

Inside the car, the leather-wrapped steering wheel frames an 8000-rpm tachometer and a 180-mph speedometer. The car’s previous owner has also added an aftermarket boost gauge to the A-pillar. The car comes with an Alpine stereo linked with amplifiers and a subwoofer in the trunk, and a Viper radar detector has also been installed to fend off any unwanted attention.

However, the seller notes that the clutch throw-out bearing may require replacement in the near future. A safety recall associated with the brake vacuum hose is recorded in a September 1996 entry, but there have been no accidents or other damages recorded in the Carfax report, which lists the car’s history in Florida, Texas, and Pennsylvania through August 2017.

Car enthusiasts can bid on this RX-7 until April 30, and its current bid stands at $10,750. The auction is hosted on Bring a Trailer, which is part of Hearst Autos, just like Car and Driver. As for the author of the article, Associate News Editor Jack Fitzgerald, he fell in love with cars because of his addiction to Formula 1. Pursuing a career in auto writing, Fitzgerald hounded his professors at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and was eventually able to land his dream job at Car and Driver.
