Best SUVs of 2023 and 2024 – Best X-Small SUVs

1# – 2023 Volkswagen Taos Consumer Reviews

The seats on the 2023 Volkswagen Taos are extremely uncomfortable with less padding than the competition. Technically features are frustrating and unreliable. You will not be able to lock the doors, on the switch, as you step out as doors as doors must be locked with fob when they are closed. Cell phones are unpaired frequently and have to be repaired. I set up favorites and they were forgotten the next day. MPG is not as great as advertised. The MPG monitor on the information system fluctuates from 10 to 200 mpg, so the gage is worthless. Wifi is offered via a 3rd party but I have to disconnect it to receive texts and emails on my cell phone. In energy saving mode the air conditioner turns off in idle. The good thing about the Taos is that it’s cheap, and that’s about it.

I purchased a Taos SE FWD new in July of 2020. Previously I had owned a 2019 Jetta SEL which I loved and never had a problem with. The Taos was a good size for me living in the center of a big city. It had lots of room, great gas mileage – at times getting 44mpg on the highway. But almost form the being it was having mechanical issues. After only 4 months of ownership and less then 2000 miles, the transmission had to be replaced. The in the second year of ownership the electronics / software issues. The car just died on the expressway. Took it to the dealership in “limp” mode and after 4 days, the dealership said they had it fixed, But then it happened again. In the shop for 10 days before they could get it running. There were other issues too. I contacted VW USA and asked for a buyback or some assistance. Heard crickets for 6 weeks before they denied my claim and said any future repairs will be covered under the warranty. I just lost faith in the Taos and traded it in -certainly not another VW. Took a big loss on the car but I just felt it wasn’t safe for me to drive.

2# – 2023 Chevy Trailblazer Consumer Reviews

Have had my 2023 RS Trailblazer for 2 months and so far I love it. The AWD turbo has all the power I need for my city and highway driving. If you are looking for a 0 to 60 i 4 seconds this is not the vehicle but if you are a normal driver it is all you will need. Totally agree with the great reviews on styling and interior comfort and convivence . The engine stop feature has taken some time in getting used to but I have become familiar with it. Remote start is fantastic. When it comes to road noise I find it acceptable but I must point out I exchanged the dealer tires for a set of Michelin Cross climate all weather tires. Living in a condo I got tired of paying twice a year for removal and storage of tires. Compared to my Tucson with normal tires this is very comparable noise wise.

3# – 2023 Mazda CX-30 Consumer Reviews

I’m not a Mazda fan but I have been looking and testing cars everyday for two weeks. I had to replace my moms car, a 1995 BMW 12 cylinder 850Ci, and I have test driven BMW, Kia, Hyundai, Buick, Honda, Lexus, Nissan….etc basically everything out there. Today I bought the Mazda CX 30 Turbo Premium after all. It was priced at 34.5k. A little more than I wanted to spend but jeez the ride is smooth. The interior is well appointed and very comfy. The turbo seems to have enough power to pass easily. It’s a four cylinder turbo what do you seriously expect? If you want a racey SUV get the Mercedes V8 Bi turbo. If you’re looking for a modestly priced, very well appointed, great commuter, mini SUV then at least test drive this Crossover. It came with a power tail gate as well. The bang for the buck is by far better than any other 2022 in it’s class that I test drove in my two week quest. I’m impressed and happy when I drive it.
